some interesting facts abt convent:
- the weekly competition for 'kelas terbersih' (cleanest class) and 'kelas bertanggungjawab' (direct translation: responsible class, ie the dirtiest class) is still going on.. but one new thing is, the monitor for kelas bertanggungjwab have to go on stage to make a pledge which sounds sth like this.. "kami, murid-murid dari kelas ... berikrar, tidak akan membuang sampah merata-rata tempat sebagai lambang komitment dan percintaan kami terhadap sekolah... "(we, students from class ... pledge not to anyhow throw rubbish, as a commitement and to show our love for the school...) i was practically laughing when i heard the students making the pledge during assembly on monday...
- there are no other teacher who're younger than 25 yrs old for afternoon session... and most of the teachers are malays.. so i've been hearing a lot of malay conversations troughout my time at the staff room... malay teachers wear baju kurung to school.. the other non-malays, either wear sari or punjabi suit (for indians) or puffed sleeves kinda blouse with long skirts (for chinese)... oh, and there're only 2 male teachers... the rest all females..
- classrooms are not air-conditioned... and the worst thing is, in 1K, one out of the 2 fans is not working... sigh...
- i'm commonly known as 'yeanmay's sister'... everywhere i go i can hear whispers "itu kakak yeanmay..." "yakah? jangan tipu lah..." "betul... tak tipu, awak tanya yeanmay sendiri lah..." ("tt's yeanmay's sister.." "really, dun bluff larhh..." "really, if u dun believe, ask yeanmay yourself..") the teachers also always say, "kakak yeanmay ya? padanlah mukanya serupa..." (yeanmay's sister? no wonder both of u look alike..) the first question tt students always ask me, "teacher, are u yeanmay's sister?"
- 1E is the noisiest class among the 5 classes tt i teach.. the gang of 4 who sit behind of the class is almost driving me nuts... it's like having multiples of yeanching... hehe... but actually they're quite fun to hang ard with, outside class...
- i can be a perfect translator if i continue to teach 1G... "cikgu, apa perkataan melayu untuk ___ " they ask for translation for the simplest kind of words like 'the, river, peas, paste, melt, cool etc...' even my primary 1 brother can speak better english than most of them, thanks to disney channel... oh, and i have to translate english to malay and chinese... good chance to brush up my chinese also...
